The FBA Maryland Chapter, in partnership with the Maryland Bankruptcy Bar Association, invites you to join us on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, for an engaging fireside chat with the Honorable Nancy V. Alquist of the Maryland Bankruptcy Court, Baltimore Division.

Moderated by Irving E. Walker of Cole Schotz P.C., this program will highlight Judge Alquist’s distinguished career, her path from accomplished bankruptcy lawyer to the federal bench, and the role of mentorship in shaping her journey.

Judge Alquist will share insights on practicing in bankruptcy court, including opportunities for non-bankruptcy lawyers and young attorneys to gain valuable federal trial experience. She will also address pressing challenges such as the high rate of pro se debtor filings in Maryland and discuss potential solutions to make the system more accessible.

In addition, Judge Alquist will reflect on her extensive international work through the Department of Commerce, where she has conducted trainings around the world to strengthen judicial systems in bankruptcy, commercial law, and insurance law.

A reception will follow the discussion, offering attendees the chance to connect with colleagues and members of the judiciary. Admission includes access to both the fireside chat and reception.
