2026 FBA Maryland Annual Luncheon Honors Judge Catherine C. Blake
The Maryland Chapter of the Federal Bar Association gathered on Friday, April 17, for its 2026 Annual Luncheon.
193 members of the Maryland legal community met at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor to welcome spring and reconnect. The afternoon brought together members of the bench, the bar, colleagues, and longtime friends.
Recognizing Honorable Catherine C. Blake & Her Career of Distinguished Service
This year's gathering carried special meaning. The chapter paused to honor the Honorable Catherine C. Blake and her remarkable legacy. Judge Blake served the District of Maryland for more than four decades.
Her career traced a rare arc of public service. She held roles as Assistant United States Attorney, First Assistant United States Attorney, and United States Attorney. She later served as Magistrate Judge, District Judge, Administrative Judge, and Chief Judge. Each role reflected her deep commitment to the court and the community.
Colleagues remembered Judge Blake as warm, engaging, and principled. Generations of law clerks and friends described her as a model of integrity. Her even-handed and thoughtful approach to justice set a lasting standard.
Voices From the Bench & Bar Speak at 2026 Annual Luncheon
Attendees also heard from leaders across the bench and bar. Chapter President Paul Caiola and National Delegate Mark Saudek shared remarks on behalf of the chapter. Saudek, who once clerked for Judge Blake, offered a personal reflection on her influence.
Chief District Judge George L. Russell III addressed the room as well. Magistrate Judges Chelsea J. Crawford and Douglas R. Miller also spoke. Their words honored both new members of the bench and the district's shared history.
