The FBA Maryland Chapter invites you to join us on Thursday, November 21, 2024, for a special fireside chat with Chief Judge George L. Russell III, moderated by FBA Board Member LaShanta Harris. Chief Judge Russell was elevated to Chief Judge on May 1, 2024, and will share insights from his remarkable career and leadership of the District of Maryland.
Judge Russell will reflect on his early service with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, where he worked in both the Criminal and Civil Divisions, before being appointed first to the Circuit Court for Baltimore City (2007) and then to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (2011).
Attendees will also hear about the powerful influence of Judge Russell’s father, George L. Russell, Jr., the first African American to sit on the Circuit Court in Maryland and later on the state’s appellate bench. Chief Judge Russell will discuss the values of hard work, integrity, and mentorship that shaped his career, and will encourage lawyers to serve their communities and practice civility and professionalism to uphold the excellence of the Maryland federal bar.
This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with the Chief Judge in a personal setting and gain guidance on building a successful and principled legal career. A networking reception will follow. Admission includes access to both the fireside chat and reception.
