2025 DiRito Award Honors Bonnie Greenberg for Outstanding Public Service
On June 12, 2025, the Federal Bar Association Maryland Chapter gathered for a vibrant evening of networking and camaraderie at TopGolf, where Bonnie Greenberg was honored with the 2025 DiRito Award. As the evening’s focal point, this award honors exceptional public service in support of the FBA’s mission. This year’s award was presented to longtime FBA leader Bonnie Greenberg, whose federal legal career and commitment to the FBA exemplify the spirit of the prize.
Named after former Maryland Chapter President Peter A. DiRito, the annual award recognizes individuals whose public service has advanced justice, strengthened the federal legal profession, and contributed meaningfully to society. Bonnie’s decades of service, both within the FBA and in the broader legal community, make her a standout recipient.
Spotlight on 2025 DiRito Award Recipient: Bonnie Greenberg
Bonnie Greenberg has been deeply engaged with both the FBA Maryland Chapter and FBA National. She served as Maryland Chapter President in 2004 and held the role of Chapter National Delegate from 2014 to 2022. Nationally, Bonnie’s leadership has included positions on the FBA Board of Directors (2022–2024) and various committees, such as the Annual Convention Committee, the Sarah T. Hughes Civil Rights Award Committee, and the Audit Committee.
She also chaired the Professional Development Committee and contributed to several influential task forces addressing public service, FBA governance, and the future of national conferences. As a Life Fellow of the Foundation of the FBA since 2016, her commitment has been both long-standing and impactful.
Bonnie Greenberg’s Career of Federal Justice and Legal Education
Following her graduation from Temple University Beasley School of Law, Bonnie began her career as an Honors Attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Her tenure included positions in the Antitrust and Criminal Divisions before she joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland. Over her 37-year prosecutorial career, she handled a wide array of severe federal cases, including violent crime, child exploitation, public corruption, and international narcotics conspiracies.
From 1987 onward, Bonnie also served as an adjunct faculty member for the DOJ’s Office of Legal Education, teaching Trial Advocacy, Evidence, and related topics to federal prosecutors. Her final DOJ position was as an Attorney Advisor with the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT), where she provided legal training in international settings, including a two-week intensive Trial Advocacy program in Bangladesh.

Even after her official retirement in 2023, Bonnie Greenberg’s dedication to justice and mentorship remains unwavering. She recently stepped down from the FBA National Board of Directors but continues to teach as an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law, offering courses in Trial Advocacy and Applied Evidence. In Spring 2023, she helped facilitate an anti-corruption program for prosecutors in Uzbekistan, exemplifying her ongoing commitment to global legal development.
The 2025 DiRito Award not only celebrates Bonnie Greenberg’s past accomplishments but also her active role in shaping the future of the legal profession. Her unwavering focus on mentorship, justice, and community service makes her a model public servant and a fitting recipient of this prestigious honor.
