2026 Introduction to Federal Practice Program & Admission Ceremony

The Federal Bar Association Maryland Chapter will host the 2026 Introduction to Federal Practice Program & Admission Ceremony on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 12:30 to 4:30PM, at the J. Frederick Motz Ceremonial Courtroom (1A) in the United States Courthouse in Baltimore. This in-person program is designed for practitioners appearing in Maryland’s Federal District Court and attorneys preparing for admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

The CLE program will cover topics that include:

  • Introduction to the Courthouses and Lawyer Resources

  • Highlights of Local Rules and Standing Orders

  • Discovery and Discovery Disputes

  • Mediation

  • Motions Practice

Introduction to Federal Practice will feature judges from the federal bench, along with attorneys who regularly practice in the U.S. District Court. Also, the program includes remarks and tips from the Clerk’s Office of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

2026 Introduction to Federal Practice Program Agenda

The 2026 Introduction to Federal Practice Program will open with welcome remarks and an overview of the day’s program. Attendees will then receive a primer on navigating the courthouse and federal practice resources from David Ciambruschini, Chief Deputy Clerk of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Then, the program will continue with an overview of key local rules and standing orders featuring Lauren McLarney, Esq. and Neel Lalchandani, Esq..

Additional sessions will address discovery, electronically stored information, and discovery disputes with Chapter President-Elect Tom Barnard, Esq., followed by a motions practice program with Kristen Eriksson, Esq. The afternoon will conclude with a mediation-focused session led by Evan T. Shea, Esq., along with brief remarks on membership in the Federal Bar Association from Paul Caiola, Esq., President of the FBA Maryland Chapter, before the swearing-in ceremony.

Attorney Admissions (U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland)

Immediately following the program, the Admissions Ceremony will begin at approximately 4:00PM, complemented by a reception from 4:30 to 5:30PM. Admittees are welcome to have guests attend the ceremony.

Attorneys seeking admission must submit their online application and pay the $200 admission fee electronically through the Court’s website. Applications for the February 27, 2026, ceremony must be filed no later than February 13, 2026. Furthermore, applicants must have a sponsor complete and sign the sponsor portion of the application, but sponsors are not required to attend the ceremony.

RSVP for the 2026 edition of the Introduction to Federal Practice Program. This event offers up to 4 hours of CLE (pending approval). It will be immediately followed by the District of Maryland Court Admissions Ceremony, along with a reception. The CLE program is offered free of charge.
